BOOK OF THE MONTH- Ladies, a plate - Traditional home baking
By Alexa Johnston
Proper old school cake book. This wonderful collection of traditional baking by New Zealand
author Alexa Johnston revives the recipes that littered her childhood when women baked for suppers and teas at community events in response to the message 'Ladies, a plate'
- often printed on invitations to attend. Classics like butterfly cakes, brandy snaps and
Victoria sponge sit beside wonderfully named recipes Jammy dodgers, gipsy creams,
cheese busters and our personal favourite, friendly road buns. The author also includes
all conversions, basic pastry recipes, and a generous amount of jam making tips to go
along with all that cake .

Meet the Maker
- Glór Peanut Butter - Friday August 27th from 12 p.m
"It's not often that a food product stops you in your tracks and you just
know it's the very best that it could be. That was my reaction to Glór
peanut butter, which I bought at the Point Village Market"
MARIE-CLAIRE
DIGBY, IRISH TIMES
We're proud to have Oliver Heffernen in store with us on the last Friday of this month,
August 27th, from around 12 o'clock... Eventhough his delcious range of peanut
butters are simply wonderful spread on bread, we'll also be making some peanut butter
cookies and a full-on peanut and chocolate brownie for tasters...

Recipe of the month
Buttermilk Panna Cotta
We've chosen Panna Cotta this month because it's the perfect
companion to the abundance of wonderful Irish berries in season.
Simply scatter the plate with some strawberries, cherries, blueberries, blackberries,
loganberries... whatever you have or a mix of the lot.
The desert works well with a myriad of other ingredients such as
lightly cooked rhubarb, plain chocolate sauce, or figs and honey.
Click here to have a look at the recipe.
