Good Food Ireland -'Meet the maker'

We've got some of Ireland's finest artisan producers visiting our store on occasional Saturdays throughout this year. We're starting locally for 2010 when we'll be visited by the lovely people from Cuinneog Butter. With so many dreary artifical butter subsitutes on the market, it's a source of great pride to have some of the country's finest butter made on our doorstep in Balla, Co. Mayo. So cancel any plans that you've made and put the word 'Butter Day' in your diary for Saturday January 23rd. Or not. But if you're in the deli that day, make sure that you have a taste of the real thing on Rua soda bread and find out more about their other products like Cuinneog Buttermilk.

A total classic. Throw out everything else - this is the one. Utterly comprehensive and informative, it's a timeless masterpiece. It's been around a while, and will be around for a long time to come. You need this book.

Cheese of the month

Shropshire Blue is a cow's milk blue cheese from England and technically a cross between Stilton and Cheshire. The distinctive orange colour comes from the addition of annatto, a natural food colouring. Shropshire, while generally creamier and less nutty than Stilton, is sometimes stronger as well. 10% off for the remainder of January.
